s.w.e.e.t.s!

July 19th, 2010 — 9:30am

If you have seen my tweets from this weekend you’ll know that I’ve been busy crafting again!  With help from my Mom, we painted our “sweets” sign for our candy table.  I picked up the letters from HobbyCraft some time ago for around 99p each and the paint were tester pots from Homebase which cost me about £2 each.

(I’ve also used the paint on another project that I can’t share until after the wedding… sorry, all I can say is it might have something to do with bridesmaids and it might have something to do with presents!)

Unfortunately we had run out of plastic gloves so it got a little messy!

Ok, a lot messy!!

We used brushes to makes sure all the tight spots were completely covered with two coats of paint and then used a roller brush to smooth over the fronts of the letters.

I’m so pleased with the results!  It took us around half an hour from start to finish including waiting time for them to dry.

The plan now is to tack them on to a piece of wood so the letters can stand up on our candy table.

Table Plans

May 20th, 2010 — 4:23pm

I haven’t really thought very much about our table plan, we know what we want to call our tables and are almost sure of where everyone will sit, but I haven’t really had any ideas about how to display this to our guests.

I’ve noticed a few cool ideas whilst mooching through the many blogs I read, these are some of my favourites…

Labels, Window, Crystals, Yellow Taxis, Chalkboard, Pegged, Triangles, Buttons, Green

Chalkboard Heart Placecards Part 5

May 17th, 2010 — 9:29am

Our chalk board place cards needed a second coat of paint. I found when I sprayed them on a surface the underside would also get paint on them and look bumpy.  So the only way to apply the second coat was to let them hang dry.

Cue me and Mom tying fiddly cotton through 90 holes in 90 hearts.  Then hanging them from 2 make shift lines between chairs in the garden.  2 aching backs and 4 sore knees later we had our place card washing line.

I spray painted each heart, whilst Mom stood behind with a massive piece of card so we didn’t turn the garden black then left them to dry.

Next step is threading through the string or ribbon (which ever I decide) and waiting for people to RSVP so I can write their names on!

Fluffy Purple Flowers

March 18th, 2010 — 1:02pm

After yesterday’s wobble and the kind advice and support from everyone I think I’ve come to realise it was the shape of the white bouquet that I loved.

If I can have a big fluffy purple bouquet I’ll be a happy girl!

So flowers to make my bouquet fluffy.

Hydrangea
Chrysanthemum

Wobbles

March 17th, 2010 — 4:56pm

I’m sure it’s something every bride goes through but I’m wobbling, nothing major – I still love my dress, I still love the venue and I still 100% want to marry Has!

No I’m wobbling over my bouquet.  I’ve mentioned before that I don’t have a huge amount of knowledge in the flower world.  I know what I like and what I don’t like and that’s about it!

The bouquet I have discussed with my florist Jennie will look similar to this.

We had talked about having a mixture of blue moon and avalanche roses (lilac and ivory) freesias and lisianthus. All in different shades of ivory and purple.
However I keep seeing all white bouquets.  Fluffy, white, giant bouquets.  Like this one I posted a few weeks ago
Taken from Style me Pretty

If I had an all white bouquet I’d still have roses, freesias and lisianthus.  I can’t decide which bouquet I like best, so I’m handing it over to you. Which do you prefer?

Thank you

Cyber Candy

March 16th, 2010 — 1:06pm

Has and I had to get the bus into work this morning as my poor car (Bebe) is visiting the garage.  The stop for our bus is the other side of the town from my office so I rarely venture that way.  It was a blessing in disguise, we stepping off the bus to see a shop we had never seen before, in Birmingham at least.

Cyber Candy

If you’ve never visited or even heard about Cyber Candy, it’s a shop that sells sweets, chocolates, drinks, biscuits and loads more from around the World.  In particular (for us!) American candy!

Hershey’s Kisses, Milk Duds (my favourites!), Lucky Charms, Mountain Dew, Twinkies, Jolly Ranchers, Twizzlers to name but a few of the things we over dose on when we’re in the USA.

Hayley’s sister Kirsty bought us back some Hershey’s Kisses on her recent trip to New York and now if we think we need any more, we have a store right on our door step!  Depending on the cost it would be nice to be able to have a few more American treats on our candy table.

I was also thinking I could pick up a few treats for our ushers. I think they will go really well with the American lager/beer idea.

I also happen to know that one of my bridesmaids has a bit of a thing for Fruit Loops….

Hugs ‘n Kisses!

March 8th, 2010 — 8:27pm

Hayley’s sister Kirsty went on holiday to New York last week and was sent away with the job of picking us up a few packets of silver and purple Hershey’s Hugs and Kisses.  Like a star she didn’t let us down!

Thanks Kirsty!  The problem now is hiding them away safe so they’re not gobbled up before November!

Chalkboard Heart Placecards Part 4

March 5th, 2010 — 10:16am

Looped with jute twine and tied around a napkin.  Our napkins will in be white but I wanted to see how it all looked together.

You can still see the wood grain on the hearts so I’ll need to do another coat of chalkboard paint.

Rather pleased!

Candy Table Vases

March 2nd, 2010 — 11:01am

These are the type of vases I want for our candy table.

from here
Especially the glass jars.  I love them! I know Confetti have similar glass sweet jars available for £14.99, I’ll probably pick up a couple of those soon.  I also can’t help but think how cute they’d look in our home after the wedding too!
We already have large Martini vases for our centre pieces so I think a couple of smaller ones on the candy table would go really well.  I picked up our Martini vases from Excelsior Wholesale, my Sister-in-law to be, Amanda and I spent hours searching the internet for reasonably priced Martini vases and came across this company who happen to be about a 15 minute drive from us!  I ordered everything online and went to pick it up.  They were so helpful and had everything ready for me to pick up when I go there.
We have to go back to pick up 2 more Martini vases and a couple rolls of organza so I will probably take a look at their selection of vases to see if I can find anything else for our sweets to sit in!
