Our favour boxes were actually one of the first wedding related items I bought after getting engaged.
There are so many amazing and fun ideas for favours and if I’d thought about it enough before jumping feet first and committing myself with these favour boxes I may well have been inclined to have been a little more creative. But I was eager to start the ball rolling and so, handbag shaped favour boxes for the female guests at our wedding it is.
To be honest and this is just my opinion, I don’t believe anybody really takes notice in favours. We could have spent a lot on unique and fancy favours, but we both felt it as an area of the wedding budget where we could cut back on. Our guests will be receiving miniature Dairy Milk bars. (Hey they’re purple!)
Just because our actual favours are rather run of the mill, doesn’t mean I can’t jazz up the boxes! On Monday I popped round to Suzie’s with my handy glue gun and we set about making and decorating the boxes for our female guests. The boxes for the boys are a little more simple and need to be made up around the chocolate – another job for another day.
Despite the fact that I’m not 100% in love with my decision to go with handbag shaped boxes I actually really love the way they’ve turned out.

I’ve been having a mooch on the Thorntons website, I love Thorntons chocolates but didn’t realise until today that they offer a wedding service.
Chocolate favours with the bride and grooms initials
Tiny cute favour boxes filled with 1, 2 or 4 delicious Thorntons
They also sell the matching stationery so you can tie everything together. There are loads of different options available and if you already (like me) have sourced your favour boxes but are wondering what to fill them with… how about Thorntons
Continental Viennese Truffles, Champagne Truffle Hearts or even Continental Diplomat (my favourite!)?
If someone has been extra helpful and you want to spoil them why not say thank you with one of Thorntons
amazing I Love Chocolate gift boxes?
Maybe doing this post before lunch was a bad idea? Now I’m hungry and craving chocolate!

I keep thinking up new DIY projects to take on before the wedding.
I was speaking to Hayley yesterday and she said to lower the risk of the last minute cutting sticking and painting panic we should tackle a DIY project every month. Last night I made a quick list of projects I had planned and I clocked up 10.
- Invitations Day
- Invitations Evening
- Order of service
- Favour boxes
- Table names photos & frames
- Place names
- Chalkboard menus
- Table plan
- Sweet table signs
- Children’s gift packs
We have 9 months, 2 weeks until the wedding… We best get cracking! I have a feeling, come the summer this is what we’ll be doing most weekends!
The question is, have I taken on too much!?

We have 7 maybe 8 (My cousin is expecting this December!) children coming to our wedding for the whole day, all of which are family and we wouldn’t dream of not inviting them.
That said we also realise that children get bored very easily. As well as the l ittle jars of sweets for the children we want to give them a bag of treats to keep them occupied.
I’ve brought white gift bags from eBay, they are quite big and really sturdy. I’ve designed my own labels to go on the bags, and I’m thinking of replacing the white cord handles with purple ones.
This is an example of the labels
I intend to put the bags at their place on the tables and fill the bags with things to colour, make and play. I’m going to be keeping my eyes open in the Christmas sales this year to see if there are any bargains to be had!

I brought a few sheets of sticky labels yesterday off eBay. They only cost £2 so i’m not too worried if my idea doesn’t work out.
I’m hoping I can print the same I ♥ NY design from the chocolates on to these tiny stickers to put on the favour boxes themselves.
They are only 19mm so really small! This is what I’m hoping they will look like.

Most bridal magazines you read will suggest “DIY-ing” as a way to save money, I on the other hand want to DIY because that’s what I enjoy. I’ve already made a start on the invitations and another thing I wanted to do myself was the favours.
My initial idea was to buy chocolates from New York, but quickly changed my mind. I wasn’t sure they’d survive the plane journey and to be honest most American chocolate is just a bit gross! I still wanted to continue the New York theme over to the favours so I designed my own wrappers! I’ve decided to bulk buy delicious Green & Blacks miniature chocolates and wrap them (with the help of my wonderful bridesmaids and mommy!) in these.
The ladies will have their chocolates presented in these.
And the men will have theirs in these.
They are flat packed boxes which need to be assembled and decorated.
I really lucked out with the children’s favours, I found these adorable jars in Confetti
at a bargain price. They were heavily reduced because the jelly beans that were inside were coming to the end of their shelf life. I intend to fill them with either jelly sweets or chocolates like smarties.
I also had a go at making my own wine charms, hopefully I can get the staff at Nailcote to attach them to people’s glasses, else I’m going to have to pop them in the bags. I managed to make around 90 of these charms in a few hours. It was actually quite relaxing!
