Meg

October 17th, 2010 — 6:04pm

Sadly we said goodbye to our family dog Meg on Friday.  She has been a huge part of our lives for over 17 years and we are all going to miss her dearly.

She’s in a better place now, but it’s always hard to say goodbye to a friend. xxx

The Hens, the Raspberry Martinis and the Brazilian Ass Shaking

October 15th, 2010 — 10:37pm

We had reservations at Las Iguanas in Soho and seeing as it wasn’t that far from the Ice Bar we decided to walk.  Our short journey took us past some erm… very interesting shops.  Spankarama!?

We arrived early so enjoyed a few cocktails by the bar.  I should probably mention that my soon to be brother-in-law is actually a director of the Las Iguanas chain, so I’m sure you can imagine we were looked after very well!

Their Raspberry Martinis are to die for!  They have Brazilian dancers every Saturday night, they come out to the beat of drums and you can’t help but shake and dance along with them!  So much fun!

Harriet and Hayley forced (yes forced!)  Tequila shots on me…

It was such a great night and I loved every minute of it!   We headed back to the hotel and said our good nights.  I was sharing a room with Suzie and Hayley and after talking about the night and the day we had just had we all slowly drifted off to sleep.

I had the most perfect hen weekend with the most perfect hens!  Every one of them made it special, I have such wonderful friends!

Thank you to all my hens!  Suzie, Hayley, Mom, Dawn, Harriet, Debbie, Sue, Amanda, Cathy, Jo, Nan Pat, Nan Joan, Katie, Kelly, Heather G, Vicky, Heather W and Catherine.  xxx

The Hens on Ice

October 14th, 2010 — 9:22pm

False eyelashes attached, spritzed with perfume, hair volumised, heels on, lips glossed – we were ready for the night ahead!

Probably the part of the hen weekend I was most looking forward to was the Ice Bar – completely novel but so different.  We all took separate taxis to the bar and whilst sitting in traffic I had a worrying call “Laura they don’t have our reservation” erm what!?  Not much I could do sitting in the back of a taxi.  Thankfully once I got there my sister-in-law to be Amanda had had words with the manager and together with Suzie they had already sorted it all out.  Reservation was apparently under a completely different surname – everything else was correct.  By the time that had all been corrected we only had half an hour in the bar.  (To be honest it was long enough!)

With cosy blue capes thrown over your head, you walk into what can only be described as a giant-alcohol-serving-freezer!

Including in the price of admission is one vodka cocktail served in an ice shot glass.  Even though the capes include gloves you can’t take your time over your drinks.  The cold from the glass soon seeps in through the gloves and you end up downing your drink!

It was really good fun, but I don’t know how we would have stayed in there for the full 45 minutes – half an hour was more than enough for us!  We headed back outside and found a really nice bar to sit down outside of where we enjoyed a few more cocktails and drinks before moving on to Las Iguanas for our dinner.

The Hens and the blubbing bride

October 14th, 2010 — 12:00pm

Once we made it back to the hotel there was only about half an hour before our Afternoon Tea so I frantically ran to our room to make up the little gift bags I had made for all the girls.   Hayley and Suzie had helped me box up mini Thorntons chocolates and mix 3 different cocktails.  A Cosmopolitan, a Pomegranate Martini and a Side Car.  Just a little thank you to the girls!

Once all 19 bags had been assembled I hurried downstairs, and placed a bag at each place on the table.  The Afternoon Tea was lovely, we started out with sandwiches which were very tasty!  We were served scones and a selection of delicious cakes.  Our only criticism was that the tea was very weak, it was actually a very odd quirk of all the tea we were served at the hotel over the weekend.

After filling up on the very tasty treats, I was surprised by a calling for attention from Suzie.  I’d be lying if I said I could remember what she said but before I knew what was happening Suzie and Hayley were handing me gifts and the other girls were crowding round.

I was presented with my beautiful scrapbook and stunning Thomas Sabo charm bracelet

and I suddenly became very overwhelmed.  The time and effort everyone had put in really touched me.

Then once I had composed myself, they handed me my gorgeous purple and pearls Thomas Sabo bracelet.  Blown-away!  I wrote about my amazing friends and the gifts I had been given here.

Once we had all finished our Afternoon Tea we headed off to ours rooms to freshen up and get ready for our big night out!  I walked into the room I shared with Hayley and Suzie to find this…

Both of them snuggled up in bed!  Seeing as we had time to spare, I went ahead and joined them!

The Hens and the Eye

October 13th, 2010 — 12:00pm

Once we had arrived at our hotel, we found everyone in the lobby.  We were able to check in straight away so we dumped our bags and headed for the London Eye.

Despite the queue looking worryingly long it moved fairly quickly.  Even though 18 ladies came on the hen only 15 went on the Eye.  I didn’t think I had a fear of heights until I saw how high the London Eye was!  I really didn’t have time to fret though because by the time I’d caught up with all my friends in the queue we were at the front and taking our steps into the pod.

It wasn’t the clearest of days but we could still make out quite a lot.

I thoroughly enjoyed the London Eye it really was such a great experience.

Even those who were a little more nervy about heights enjoyed it and were glad they did it.

After our “flight” we found a spot by the river to sit outside and drink Pimms and Watermelon cocktails!  How delightful! Next on our Hen agenda was Afternoon Tea back, so we grabbed taxis and headed back to our hotel.  Our taxi driver definitely got the “Most Entertaining Driver” award.  After he asked where we were from and why we were in London he decided to tell us he was on Match.com and how he’d driven up to Birmingham on a date.  Gone on a date with a girl from Manchester and another from Wales… Yes this guy was telling us about all his recent conquests!  Still, he made us laugh!

The Hens and the slow train to London.

October 12th, 2010 — 12:00pm

Saturday 9th October 2010, 18 ladies including myself descended on London.  Some of us arrived a little later than others.  Let’s just say it had something to do with a frazzled blonde bride to be, rising train ticket prices and the slowest train to London ever.

As we had 2 hours to kill on the London Midland train from Birmingham to London we took provisions.  2 bottles of Bucks Fizz, biscuits and Haribo.  The essentials.

This is my “amused” face when they started to play “The Chapel of Love” on the Iphone and have a sing along!

Then yeah I sang along a little too!  Honestly the journey didn’t feel like it had taken 2 hours and before we knew it we were at Euston, jumping into a taxi and making our way to our hotel where the other girls were waiting for us…

My Amazing Friends

October 11th, 2010 — 8:31pm

I’m going to do a full write up about my Hen Weekend this week, but first I need to make a very public and very BIG thank you to all the girls who made my hen party so amazing.

Even though there were ladies there from all aspects of my life, everyone got on so well.  I didn’t need to make any introductions because before I knew it everyone was mingling, talking and getting to know each other.

Special thank you’s have to go to Suzie and Hayley for organising all the little secrets, Harriet for glamming me up on the night, Amanda for being a star and sorting out so many little things, like the Ice Bar reservation!  My Mom to running around the day before helping the girls with their surprises!  And my Nans for being total troopers and rockin’ out until the early hours!

All of the girls had clubbed together and bought me not one but TWO beautiful Thomas Sabo Charm Bracelets.  The first one was adorned with charms to represent various things about me.  A pearl, the letter L, the Statue of Liberty, and a cocktail in a Martini glass.  (The last one represents the hen party not because I’m an alcoholic haha!)

Absolutely love it and I was completely blown away!!  The second bracelet is for me to wear on the wedding day… Purple and Pearls

Do you see what I mean when I say I have amazing friends!?

That wasn’t it either!  They brought out a scrapbook full of memories, photos and lovely words.  Each of them had created a page or two to slip into the book.  It’s such a beautiful idea and I can’t stop looking through it.

Just a few of the pages…

The generosity and thoughtfulness of all the girls completely overwhelmed me – it makes me teary to think about how much they all did for me.  Love you all so much, thank you again and again for the perfect weekend xxx

Fittings

October 7th, 2010 — 10:02pm

Today was Suzie and Hayley’s fitting for there dresses.  I can not tell you just how much I love our bridesmaids dresses and how amazing all the girls look in them.  The photos I have taken honestly do not do them justice.

Only minor alterations needed, thankfully!  I can’t wait to see them both all glammed up, sparkling on the day.

Beautiful, beautiful ladies!

Hopefully our guests will enjoy the extra treats!
