Labyrinth Inspired Cupcakes

This weekend we held the first ever Butt-Numb-A-Thon. 24 hours of non-stop films. 5 of us chose 2 films each and we had to prepare food to match up to our film.

One of my films was the Labyrinth. An absolute classic 80s childhood film. I wasn’t really sure on what food to prepare but had a sudden brain wave.

I re-create one of my favourite characters from the film

Labyrinth Worm Cupcakes

I made 6 little worm guys in total and they took me FOREVER to do, but I was really glad I spent the time and effort because the response from everyone was really good!

He’s such a cute little character – love him!

And just in case you’re interested we managed to watch 13 films in 24 hours. Starting with

  1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  2. Labyrinth
  3. American Movie: The Making of Northwestern
  4. Garden State
  5. Paper Moon
  6. Dark Night of the Scarecrow
  7. Mutiny on the Buses
  8. Bullitt
  9. Little Giants
  10. Black Narcissus
  11. Grizzly
  12. The Great Outdoors
  13. The Dark Knight

Quite an eclectic mix, and some were hard to watch at 4am in the morning, but we all managed to survive the full 24 hours and at this point I haven’t been to bed in over 33 hours!

All good fun and I’m sure we’ll do it again next year!

One of my favourite films when I was a kid, and my 3 year old nephew loves it too!

It’s tempting to say that ‘they don’t make em like that anymore’, but the truth is they never made them like that. It’s a one-off!

Fantasy movies (even those aimed at kids) have fantastical creatures designed in a less stylised way and are all rendered in CG. All of the characters in Labyrinth have a real personality, I’m not sure whether that’s because of Brian Froud or Jim Henson – but the film just seems brimming with personality and fun. Those wonderful little details like the angry little character who lives under the slab that Sarah has graffitied with her lipstick arrows. Show me a kids fantasy film that has that sense of fun, silliness and wonder? Great film.

Love the cakes, they look awesome! Just make me wanna say ‘ello!’

Oh Laura these are just fab!!! I LOVE Labrinth, I actially wore my VHS of it out as a child and I used to know all the songs (wonder if they’d come flooding back now).

Also loving the butt-numb-a-thon, hahaha it made me laugh. The cakes are very impressive xx

Yes I did! Easy enough, just took a lot of patience and moulding sugarpaste. You should definitely give them a go for your party! x
